Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with a trial lesson to discuss goals, expectations, and practice methods. With young students, this trial lesson also helps me and the parent determine the child's readiness for violin instruction. After the trial lesson, we schedule a consistent weekly lesson time and I will work with you to find an instrument, establish a practice routine, and put together a learning plan for our first few months together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have nine years of teaching experience in group and private settings, as well as a BM from Oberlin Conservatory, a Masters in violin performance from Bard College, and four certifications for teacher training from the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is billed monthly, with certain weeks off for holidays.
I offer four levels of private lessons:
1) Early beginner (under age 5): 20 minutes for $20
2) Beginner (age 5 and older): 30 minutes for $30
3) Intermediate: 45 minutes for $45
4) Advanced: 60 minutes for $60
