Frequently asked questions

I'm an introduction to the instrument and let them play with it to get used to it. I like to do little games with the younger students to get them more interested and comfortable. And I also like to  get a feel for what kind of music they like and what interests them so we can pursue that as well. Whether it be classical, folk, Bluegrass, popular, movie music, etc.

I have a Masters degree in music performance, and a degree in early childhood education. I have experience as a preschool teacher and director for over 12 years, and also have several certifications in working with special needs and children with disabilities.

I do have a standard pricing – which includes all recitals and accompaniment fees.

I started playing violin when I was five years old and being part of the Suzuki tradition the older children always teach the younger ones. So I have been teaching children younger than myself since I was age 10. As an adult I finished my degrees  and performance and felt that something was lacking so I went back to school and got an early education degree. And began my life as a teacher.

I have worked with children as young as 18 months old, I have worked with students as old is 72. I've had several students who are autistic, had down syndrome, and Cerebral palsy.  I have had children that no other teachers would work with because they were missing several fingers on their hands. I especially like the challenge of children who  have ADHD or are especially hyper active because that is the way I was as a child.

I think that finding a teacher for a musical instrument is a very personal thing. I think you have to find a personality of teacher that you get along with well and the person that you can trust. It is quite a bond between a teacher and student.
