Miriam was very accommodating on every front, which made our exploration of what I was looking for and how she could address that want was just incredibly refreshing. Jeffrey E. says, "Our daughter has been taking lessons from Sally Sansbury for nearly seven years. She started as a beginner, and she can now play intermediate pieces from RCM Level 6. Sally is a very good teacher who encourages her students to not only play with technical proficiency but also musically. She continually challenges her students to play more advanced pieces of music; however, she is very patient with her students, and she meets them where they are at in their abilities; though she challenges them, she does not push them to advance faster than they are able. Sally is good at observing and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of her students; she will spend more time working with the students to master the elements of technique in which they are weak, and she will spend a little time refining the areas where they are strong. She encourages good site reading, ear training, theory, and memorization skills. Sally also nurtures a sense of appreciation for different musical styles and genres. She encourages her students to not only be good players but also good listeners. Our daughter looks up to Sally not only as a teacher but as a mentor. She values Sally’s thoughts on music and musicianship, and she is increasingly eager to try new music simply because Sally suggested it. Our daughter loves to play the piano and our house is full of music every day, and we attribute much of that blessing to the masterful way in which Sally has guided and shaped our daughter’s skill in playing the piano and her appreciation of music." Learning to play an instrument involves practicing. Wow, what a stupid sounding statement. Practicing is only marginally profitable unless you know “how” to practice. I could tell you right here, in a few words, how to practice and you might say, “ Well, of course, anyone would know that.” The problem is, knowing and doing it two different things. I like to ask a new player, “What are you hoping to song or melody are you hoping to learn to play?” For me, this way of learning an instrument is a lot more fun than playing scales and arpeggios for years, in hopes to someday being able I to play some of the stuff really want. If this sounds

I am a USAF Veteran, Former Paralegal and Berklee College of Music Graduate. I encourage each student to choose a peice of music that is just for fun. I choose the others to teach specific skills. Then I use the chosen peice to get you playing right away. This is also a great way to begin to learn to read and recognize music notation. My teaching style is relaxed and contemporary. I believe that learning music should ALWAYS be fun. No matter what skill level you are at. "Music is not work, music is play". - Joss Stone I do not use the word "practice" when asking a student to begin learning a new song or continue to a new part of a song. ...

I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Piano Performance Degree, then moved to New York City and lived there for 10 years--teaching at two schools and studying with Edith Oppens. I returned to Columbus to pursue my Master's Degree with Earl Wild while he was a Guest-Artist-In-Residence at OSU. I teach a full-time schedule of about 90 weekly students--age Pre-K to adult--at my Upper Arlington studio. In the summer, I also teach at the Otterbein University Summer Music Experience, an immersive camp for high talent, high commitment high school musicians. At Otterbein I also manage the Piano Jam, a performance opportunity for middle a...

Mrs. Brown enriched my life with the wonder and beauty of music. She is a kind-hearted teacher who shows extreme patience and care toward any student, beginner or advanced. She prioritises her student’s understanding of concepts like beats and measures as well as being able to play the correct notes. She also offers a very diverse exposure to musical theory and the greater musical world—I learned about many instruments outside of the piano even though that was the instrument I studied under her. There are also tons of opportunities to compete in district and national-level exhibitions of your skills, which I found extremely rewarding and worthwhile—and she always made that possible for me. Overall, she is a phenomenal instructor who shows genuine care toward both her students and her musical teachings—I loved hanging out with her and chatting about music even after my lessons were over!

We have known Dr. Sansbury for many years. When my older son was 7 years old, his piano teacher moved to another state. She recommended Dr. Sansbury to us. Now my older son is 14 years old. My younger son started his piano lesson with her when he was 5 years old and he is 9 now. She only raised the tuition one time during so many years. She can taught very advanced level piano. On the other hand, she is very patient with little kids too. My kids like her and they are very comfortable to ask questions if they have any. She also recommended different piano performance activities to them and let them choose what they like to get involved in. As a parent, I feel I may freely communicate with her about any issue.

Holly's teaching technique makes learning how to read music easier, and she introduces practice techniques at an early age which feel more like games than practice. Holly is professional and caring, and provided excellent teaching from elementary school to preparing my daughter for college entrance auditions. Now my daughter also teaches piano!

Very friendly, knowledgable teachers! I also like that they have a sizable music library, an easy-to-find location, and put on their recitals in real venues. Great experience all around!
