About

I customize my curriculum and teaching style to the learning style of my student. I regularly check in to make sure my student has enough practice suggestions to make practice interesting, but is not overwhelmed by having more to practice than they personally have time for.

I love spending time with people talking about music. I especially enjoy playing duets and breaking down challenging passages into manageable steps. I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent students.

Shadow is amazingly patient and understanding with new musicians (and their parents). They set up clear boundaries and expectations which help everyone know what to do and how to proceed. We have been taking lessons for over 3 years, and both kids enjoy their time in lessons, and the progress they are making in violin.

Grace does a great job teaching students where they are at and mixing up the lesson to keep it fun and engaging. Highly recommend.

Hes patient and focused on meeting Tallulah where she is on that day, which I appreciate. Good reminder for me as a parent too. As an adult student, I appreciate that he gets that my life and schedule mean Im often not going to get in the practice that would be ideal. I guess he meets me where I am too.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to ask my student about their interests and get a feel for what they know. After that, I often review basic technique that is appropriate to their level and look for excercises and repertoire to help them develop. I love it when student bring me music they are excited about!

I've played violin and Viola for twenty-seven years and have taught for nine years. I studied privately under a variety of teachers and briefly attended Oberlin Conservatory.

I offer lessons on a sliding scale basis from $30-$90 per hour. The average rate is $60/hr and sliding scale is available based on financial need.

I've worked with students of all ages. I most often work with beginning and intermediate students, or advanced students who are returning to their instrument after some time away.

Find a teacher who demonstrates respect for you as a person and musician by taking trial lessons. It's helpful to work with a teacher who's playing you admire, so ask for videos of their performances or demonstrations during your trial lessons.

What motivates me to play violin/viola?

What are my long term goals? (playing for relaxation, winning an audition, learning a specific piece, improving technique et al)

How often and long am I realistically able to practice on an average week?
