About this pro

As a compassionate teacher who has trained in martial arts over 33 years I have the experience as Head Instructor teaching kids, teens, and adults with great success.  We build character, improve focus, discipline, and teach respect for parents and all elders.

Our school has the old 'mom & pop' feel and we value member engagement adn the personal touch. I even have events at my home like our annual Xmas party and awards ceremony among others.

I love the way people emerge from their shyness or finally show the potential they have.  I've witnessed one teenager recently who had behavioral issues overcome them and then to win 3 trophies at her first tournament!  what a personal victory for her parents, her, and for me!.

My experience teaching kids with ADHD/Autism also empowers me to guide them to their victories as small as looking parents/teachers in the eye to being able to stand up to a bully and say NO!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I prefer to do intro class with small group.

-go over basic stances, kicks, punches, Protocols.

-reveiw etiquette and our expectations of their behavior and my responsibilities.

-Meet Harry our virtual animation karate student to teach monthly good behavior skills

-get weekly nutrition guide

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

As a cancer scientist for my day job I love the way that the process of searching for an answer in a new experiment applies well to a student trying their best every day to reach black belt.  It's a journey and a marathon so make every day count and you will be rewarded! example - I worked on a project for 3 years and this year got into "Journal of Thoracic Oncology."

Additionally I keep everything about positive reinforcement - no yelling or screaming, but rather an understanding of how to convey information to students.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started teaching?

I used be so scared of teaching when I was a teenageer. but I got my black belt at age 15 and it was required of me to assist. I found out I not only liked it but I had a great skill for connecting with our students.  My teacher noticed and made me Head INstructor of one of his schools and I taught there for over 12 years, and helped his other location too totally over 28 years of teaching experience.  Now I enjoy it so much I have started my own small school.

What types of students have you worked with?

All types, young, old, mischieveous, silly, fun, smart and average.  Students with ADHD/Autism and those with gifted abilities.   As I've taught I keep improving my teaching methods and learning how to treat each student with the correct help they need.

I'm not a hammer treating every student like a nail. instead Each one is a unique lock and I find the right innovative key to motivate them and find the potential they have inside them!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

My cancer charity event held each spring "ABC 4 CHOP".

The kids get a chance to grow by doing a group demo. and we raised over $21,000 in 3 years for cancer research for kids with cancer.

God has blessed me and I want to give back and help others.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I recommend looking for a teacher with at least 10 years hands on teaching Experience and with a Passion for continuing learning new skills to bring to the class to keep it current.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

-What is your goal - fitness, self defense, fun?

-Can you devote 1-2 hours a week to making your life better?

-which of our 5 styles interests you the most, or do you want a mix?
