I have taught hundreds of students around the country and am now opening up my teaching to the online world. I have seen great results with my online students. Lessons are very focused and fun. I am a very inspiring, fun and devoted teacher. I have studied with some of the finest musicians in the world at Rice University and Indiana University. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know the student as a person first. It is important to understand their musical and educational background as well as what their goals and ambitions are for their musical studies.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our first lesson will be a 30 minute trial where we will meet and greet and we can decide if we want to work together or not. Once we decide to work together you can prepay for as few as four and as many as ten lessons at a time.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a helper teacher for Mimi Zweig at the Indiana University School of Music String Academy for gifted young musicians. I have always felt that teaching is incredibly rewarding and that it is important to inspire as well as instruct students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 5 year old beginners through adults. My preference for online lessons is to work with students who are 6+. I have had advanced students who have won competitions and are on track to becoming professional musicians!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently led a Book 1 Bootcamp on Zoom with students from all over the country! It was a blast, you can look up the video on youtube. As a performer, I recently played violin and viola for the pit orchestra of The National Broadway Tour of Hamilton! I have also performed with Opera San Jose, the Santa Cruz Symphony, Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Charleston Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival, and as concertmaster of the Phantom of the Opera National tour.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher has had pedagogy training, experience working with students like yourself and is also an accomplished musician who can demonstrate on the instrument. It is also important to have a good personal connection with the teacher so make sure to do a facetime/skype interview/trial lesson before signing up for regular lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals? How much time are you willing to commit to the instrument? Learning the violin takes a long time and you need to be committed to the process which involves regular lessons and daily practice.
