About
I have played professionally (RI Philharmonic and others) for many years. I have been teaching students aged from about 6 to 70 and attended many workshops and clinics during and since getting my Masters degree. I taught in the NKingstown school system for over 20 years (now retired).
I keep current with professional organizations.
I enjoy working with students, especially solving their problems and watching their progress. I also really like playing chamber music (both violin and viola)

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with some rote work to begin getting a good tone and positions (both hands); older students will work with reading music almost from the beginning. I use a variety of materials - mostly pieces.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters degree in Music Performance from URI and a RI Teacher's certificate in Music. I have attended workshops in Suzuki, Rolland, Kato Havas, and Kodaly.
I have played a lot of chamber music, including attending the weeklong workshops sponsored by the Manhattan String Quartet.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Basically I charge $30/30 min. lesson and $45/45 min. lesson. Most students come once/week.
How did you get started teaching?
I like working with people. I had some excellent mentors.
What types of students have you worked with?
While teaching in the public schools I started students in 4th or 5th grade on their 1st instrument - every ability level! In my private studio I have had students begin in 2nd or 3rd grade and as old as late 60's.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last year I played in performances of the Mendelssohn Octet and Quartet School Concerts sponsored by Musica Dolce and the Kingston Chamber Music Festival.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Meet the teacher to see if your personalities mesh. Also, talk to other students/parents.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I wish to accomplish? Am I able to practice regularly?
