About
Teaching piano has been a transformative and deeply gratifying experience in my life. In
2019, I had the privilege of instructing formal piano lessons while pursuing my undergraduate studies in piano performance at Drake University. I developed skills to craft comprehensive lesson plans, adapt instruction for students with diverse abilities, and cultivate invaluable reserves of patience. My students, spanning five to eighteen years of age, taught me the beauty of nurturing not just musicians, but well-rounded individuals with a newfound passion for music.
My love for Piano Pedagogy grew during my time at Northern Arizona University, where I received a Master in Music degree, which sparked my interest in applying for a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy at University of South Carolina, which I am currently pursuing. I am inspired to learn more about this area and believe my previous experience has set me up for success in that realm.
As President of the Collegiate Chapter of Music Teachers National Association at NAU, I was invited to present at the 2024 MTNA National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the Arizona State University’s Pedagogy Day in November of 2023. My presentation centered on a subject I am passionate about—effectively teaching students with diverse abilities, including students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and students who require specialized repertoire such as playing with one hand. I am enthusiastic about enhancing my knowledge in piano pedagogy, as well as to advocate for inclusive music education. These invitations not only validate my commitment to advance teaching methods for diverse learners but also provide a platform to share best practices with fellow educators on a national stage.
My commitment to cultivating musical growth and igniting a lifelong passion for music in my students will enable me to make a valuable contribution to the world of music education. I aspire to integrate my love of teaching with a dynamic academic career, and to create a private piano studio that nurtures and inspires future generations of musicians.
