I truly take great joy in watching my students discover their talents and grow in their confidence and musicianship. I love reflecting with students on what they have accomplished and helping them set new goals. Music has been such a special and wonderful part of my life. I delight in getting to share my love and enthusiasm for music with my students.

How did you get started teaching?
I have spent my entire life singing and playing the piano. I often preferred practicing to doing my homework. Even from a young age, I enjoyed being the "teacher's helper" and frequently tutored or helped my friends with school or music. When it was time to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, I knew without a doubt, I wanted to teach music.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and ability levels. My students have ranged in age from pre-school to retirees and I have taught students with diverse backgrounds, academic levels, musical abilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I helped a student prepare for a college piano audition and exam. He not only passed his audition and exam with flying colors, but he is now teachng music. One of the greatest gifts a teacher can recieve is to see their students pursue music as an adult.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First, if you have even a broad idea of what you are wanting to accomplish and how much time you are willing to commit to your goals, this will greatly help you narrow your search.
Second, look for a teacher who has the qualifications to help you meet your goals. For example, if you like classical music, look for a teacher who has a background in that genre and specializes in classical vocal or piano instruction.
Third, and most importantly, you need to connect to your teacher's personality and teaching style. I would highly recommend setting up a sample lesson with a prospective teacher. Come prepared to demonstrate your musical abilities and discuss your goals. A sample lesson will give you insight into how a prospective instructor teaches and if they will be a good fit for your learning style and musical goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What would you broadly like to learn through taking lessons?
2. How much time and effort is realistic for you to committ to meeting your goals?
3. Why do you want to take music lessons?
4. What are you looking for in an instructor's teaching style and philosophy?
