About

Helloe there! My name is Brandon Mordecai and I'm a musician with a degree in Audio Engineering from the School of Music at Florida State University. In adition to skills in recording and mixing music, I have also been playing piano in both the classical and commerical ralhm since I was 5!

I have been teaching piano for all levels and beginner guitar perfessionally since 2012. I have worked independently and within schools for after school music programs.

Now that I have settled in Music City, I'm hoping to find new students with a passion for music and learning. I have experience playing in a myriad of genres in both performance and recording studio settings. My goal is not only to teach (obviously) but also to inspire a love and curiousity of music that will last a lifetime!

Music has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. There is no greater joy experienced in this world for me. I yearn to pass that feeling and experience on to as many people as possible.

I also believe that music education is an integral part of the schooling experience. Through the medium of music one practices and learns mathmatical analysis, cultural expression, empathy, hand-eye coordination, and so much more all while having the time of their lives!

Frequently asked questions

Whe I first meet a student, I always obtin some background information on their prior musical experience, other extra curicular activities, favorite music (if any), and why they want to take lessons.

Being a high school teacher, I learned two things:

1. In order to get the best results from students, that it is crucial that I teach according to the students lifestyle, culture, and interests.

2. "Kids Can;t Learn from Teachers They don't Like" - Rita Pierson

After getting some background information, I select an appropriate book that is just below their level; the reason being that some students who have played before might need a refresher if they havent taken lessons in awhile.

Beginners would get the same treatment with purly introductory material that still gets them to play on the very first lesson.

My goal by the end of the first lesson is to learn at least 1 new piece (classical or contemperary). After the lesson is complete I create a list of books to obtain. I usually recommend one exercise book, one classical song book, and one contemperary song book. Of course depending on the student's desires I would adjust these recomendations.

Lastly I assign a notebook with the weeks worth of practice with their books and scales.

I have 6+ years of private and group piano lesson experience with ages 5 -18 (with the exception of 2 adults). I also have 2 years experience teaching high school physics.

Lessons are to last at lest 30 minutes and can continue up to an hour (more time can be negotiated).

30 min - $40

60 min - $60

Pricing may negotiable depending on other factors like travel time.
