Allen Music Studio
About
I provide direct instruction in piano and voice with an emphasis on proper technique, interpretation, and musicianship. Music theory and music history provide the theoretical framework for my lessons. I have a degree in vocal music and piano and advanced degrees in educational psychology and educational administration. My lessons are centered around classical music and proper stylistic interpretation of such music given the constraints and stules of the composers and the periods in which they lived. I am certified by the State Board for Educator Certification in Texas.
My favorite thing to do as a teacher is to figure out the best way to convey information to a given student such that she or he has the "aha!" moment I'm hoping to see. Getting students excited about learning thrills me, and watching students progress is like food for my soul.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My lessons begin with the student warming up and demonstrating Techni that we have been addressing. For example, piano students will play scales and finger exercises that have been assigned and taught. Voice students will vocalize up and down their vocal range with attention being paid to proper vocal and breathing techniques. The student will then play or sing music that I have assigned to demonstrate what they have accomplished. I will then teach the student new technique and/or informatio. Finally, the lesson will conclude with an assignment for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Sam Houston State University, a Master of Science degree fromTexas A&M University, and a Ph.D. From Texas A&M University.
