I am James Johnson and I have 46 years of experience as a music educator with a BS in Education/Music Education from North Texas State University and a MA in Music Therapy from Texas Woman's University where I also taught guitar on the music faculty from 1979 through 1980.
After working as a music therapist at San Antonio State Hospital, I became the first Registered Music Therapist to work for the Windham School District in the Texas Department of Corrections, where I piloted the music therapy program with psychiatric inmates. I was on the Windham School District faculty as a music education director, a special education teacher, and an adult literacy teacher from 1982 to 2011. I was also an adjunct professor of guitar at Sam Houston State University where I taught the Fundamentals of Guitar and Advanced Guitar classes from 1991 to 2019.
Currently, I am a Music Instructor at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas where I teach Guitar, Ukulele, Piano/Keyboards and Music Theory since 2021.
As a member of Folk Alliance International, I am a singer/songwriter and a producer for Thoreau Woods Coffeehouse (past), Galveston Folk Family Concerts and Johnson Studio House Concerts since 2011.
I have also been on the Board of Directors of the Huntsville Children's Choir as a President and a Chairman of the Board from 1990 to 2005.
