David Doerr is a patient instructor. My son’s practice habits are not as consistent as they need to be all the time, yet David never shows frustration. He offers encouragement and usable advice. I can hear marked improvement in my son’s playing.

I have taken music classes from David Doerr, and found his knowledge of music theory to be at university level. He has the ability to convey the information in layman terms and teach by example along with a delightful sense of humor that makes learning a great pleasure.

Love Mr. David! He’s friendly, patient, and fun which my son loves. But he’s also articulate, passionate about music, precise, and ALWAYS prepared and on time, which I love. Highly recommend!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

In the first lesson, we will assess where the student is now and what their goals are. I will suggest repertoire, skill building exercises, method books and online resources that would be useful to the student. I believe in lifelong learning and teach students of all ages. I recommend Alfred's Basic Piano Library method books for beginner keyboard students, and I love to help intermediate keyboard players find repertoire ranging from baroque to blues, minimalism to contemporary pop that speaks to their individuality and musicianship. My vocal students can expect to learn vocal anatomy, breath control, tone color, and music literacy; extend their range, improve ear training, and hone their acting skills.
