Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Assessing their level at the instrument/skill they are wanting to learn, then finding out what is driving them to take lessons in the first place. Once I know that, I can make a plan that will fit their practicing ability and will suit them best to make the most progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been playing guitar for 12 years and took lessons throughout, Drums for 12 years and was in a great high school band program that held their students at a very high level of performance and discipline. I was part of the TAMUC percussion studio for 2 years before leaving to tour with the current arisit I play for, Chris Colston. I have had hundreds of private lessons throughout the years!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually go off of what my friends and colleagues are currently charging in the immidiate area.
How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching in college to help pay for some extra music gear I wanted to buy, but soon realized how fun it is to help people with learning something new!
What types of students have you worked with?
Anywhere from ages 7-21
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I got the opportunity to play an amazing music festival in East Texas for around 8,000 people, which is one of the largest crowds I've gotten to play in front of. Was a great show and an awesome experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't just settle for the first person you find. Teachers are like gloves, not all of them fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Make sure you try and form a solid relationship with your teacher and that you trust them.
