Hello! I'm currently accepting homeschooled students! I've been tutoring for more than 18 years with 4 years teaching at a small private school in Dickinson (2015-2019). I can travel to you, or we can meet a public venue like a library, so you don't have to worry about making the trip to a tutoring center. My hourly rate is a result of being extremely flexible with your schedule, excellent quality tutoring, and always keeping communication open. Unlike other companies and teachers, no minimum amount of teaching/tutoring is required per semester, nor is there a limit on cancellations as long as I know beforehand. I can also teach the piano t

Roopali C. says, "My son started piano lessons with Ms. Huson when he was 10 years old. He had learnt piano previously from another teacher but his playing improved significantly with Ms. Huson. He always looked forward to his lesson with her and he enjoyed playing the piano so much so that he would practice the piano without any effort from my end. Ms. Huson is very passionate and very patient with her students. When Ms. Huson moved out of town my son missed learning the piano with her and we're now now doing virtual lessons with her. Excellent teacher and I highly recommend her. I'm so glad that we found her." Read more

I teach students how to play...understand...and love the piano and music. As my students develop their confidence of notes and musicality I introduce theory as it relates to their music. Technique and music history is also introduced as it relates to their music. Teaching my students how to create music is my goal. No question my students are the best part of my day!

Your Piano Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are piano lessons?

Piano lessons cost $40 to $80 per hour, depending on the location, their experience level, and session length. A piano lesson package costs $180 to $350 for five 1-hour lessons. Children's piano lessons and online lessons often cost less than average.

Piano lessons are available for all ages in most cities in the country. Music instructors teach:

  • Music theory
  • Sight-reading
  • Improvisation
  • How to improve playing or technique

At what age should you start piano lessons?

The best age to start piano lessons is 5 to 9 years, though learning how to play the piano doesn't have an age limit. Playing the piano strengthens fine motor skills, increases flexibility, and improves your memory no matter how old you are.

Are piano lessons worth it?

Piano lessons are worth the money and effort invested over time. Playing an instrument can be beneficial for mental health, and cognitive strength. For smaller budgets, book just a few lessons to get the basics down and continue on your own.

How long are piano lessons?

Piano lessons for beginners or children are typically 30 to 45 minutes per session. Intermediate or advanced lessons are 45 to 60+ minutes per session. Most people have 1 to 2 lessons per week.

Can you learn to play piano online?

Yes, you can learn to play piano online through a webcam or virtual tutorials. Search our list of online piano teacher near you to find an instructor. Online piano lessons are often more convenient than in-person lessons and cost 20% less on average.

How do I select a piano teacher?

Start by searching our list of piano teachers, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates to compare.
  • Read reviews on Lessons and Google if possible.
  • Ask for references from current or recent students.
  • Make sure they are kind and personable, especially when with children.
  • Get a written estimate and schedule before the first lesson.
  • Avoid making a large payment up front. Follow a payment plan instead.

After asking questions and browsing reviews, hire the best piano instructor in your area.

What questions should I ask piano instructors?

When hiring piano teachers near you, ask the following questions:

  • How long have you been teaching piano?
  • Do you have a degree in music?
  • What age do you typically teach?
  • What genre of piano do you specialize in?
  • Will you give me a contract or payment arrangement in writing?
  • Will you allow me to choose some or all of the songs we practice?

Reviews for Pearland piano teachers

Ms Lucy (Tovy) is amazing. She’s very professional, knowledgeable, has amazing technique and know how to work with kids. She always give details feedback and suggestions after each lesson. Spot on right away what good and what need to be changed. My 2 sons (7 and 9 years old) love her and I can see they improve a lot. They’ve been studied piano for 2 years here and there but only with Ms. Lucy I can see effectiveness. Highly recommended.

We love our lessons with BCC School of Music! The administration and staff are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and enthusiastic about what they teach. Such wonderful people! My children love their time there! We can’t imagine going anywhere else! Centrally located in the upper Kirby area. Comfortable room for parents and siblings to wait (and listen a little!). Tons of easy parking!

I have taken music classes from David Doerr, and found his knowledge of music theory to be at university level. He has the ability to convey the information in layman terms and teach by example along with a delightful sense of humor that makes learning a great pleasure.

I saw a tremendous amount of growth in my time working with Patti. I am now in college but I worked with Patti from 7th grade-senior year of high school and hope to work with her more while I’m home. Patti took time to really grow my voice technically and as someone who typically sings alto she helped me grow my head voice a lot and by sophomore year of high school I was also being asked to sing soprano 2 instead of just alto 1 or alto 2. I would highly recommend Patti to anyone especially if you already have vocal experience but want to be pushed and continue to grow your voice even further.
