About
Respect, self-control and confidence. These are traits of students at Y. T. Tang Soo Do. While being physically trained in self-defense, other significant improvements occur simultaneously. We stress physical and mental growth. Tang Soo Do goes beyond self-defense; it concentrates on the whole person. We build traits that will serve the student well in school and later in his/her adult life. Martial Arts, as it is taught at Y. T. Tang Soo Do, is an excellent supplement to a student’s formal education. We encourage our students to study hard at school while monitoring their academic grades and progress.
As Chief Instructor, I have been with this studio since 1991 and have taught since 1996. I' certified by the World Tang Soo Do Association as an official Instructor that is renewed each year. I have attended 7 World Championships that are only held every two years. At these CHampionships, I have medaled in Forms, Sparring, and Weapons Forms. Our website is YTTangSooDo.com. You can also find us on Facebook!
Although we charge tuition to cover lease, insurance, and other expenses, our instructors are not paid. We do this as we have a passion for teaching students the art of Tang Soo Do and watching students grow in confidence and skill. As Chief Instructor, I enjoy watching the students grow up in Tang Soo Do, make progress, possibly become black belts, and then go onto college. Some of our students have been National Merit Scholars, Eagle Scouts, or have scored perfect or near perfect on their SAT's.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Any new student that comes in, I will personally work with them that first class or two to ensure they are comfortable with the class enviornment and will teach them some basic skills. Please call and let me know you are coming to ensure I will be there or can set a time to meet the new student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in Sociology and Psychology with a course concentration in Non-Profit Youth Agency Administration. I also have an MBA from the University of Montana while serving in the US Air Force. Currrently I am founder and the Executive Director of a non-profit ministry to Orphans and At-Risk Children in Russia and Eastern Europe.
My 2nd degree Black Belt was earned in 2001. I taught Tang Soo Do to children with cancer at Camp John Marc from 1998 to 2004. I've also taught basic self defense to graduate orphans in Russia.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We offer the first week of classes FREE so that you can determine if it is a right fit for you with no obligation.
The next step would be a ONE MONTH TRIAL that would include a FREE karate uniform for $67. After that, we can enroll you as a full time student with no contract to sign. Students can attend as many classes as they want.
Tests for new ranks are offered about once every 3-4 months. There are also Region events and a World Championship that is held every two years.
