Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I initially meet with the student to see if we will be a good fit. I then discuss the goals of the student and the parent (if appropriate). I assess the knowledge and skill level of the student. I build a plan to achieve the goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an undergraduate degree and a Masters Degree in music education. I commanded a U.S. Army Band for nearly twenty years. I taught music in public and private schools, grades K-12, for twenty years. I directed music programs in churches for thirty plus years. I played professionally for many years in orchestras, night clubs, and special performance settings. I have taught privately for in excess of thirty years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing varies with the length of lesson and if travel is involved.
How did you get started teaching?
Music has the power to change the lives of people. I enjoy teaching and introducing students to the amazing world of music. I may be guiding them to greater understanding and skill levels.
What types of students have you worked with?
My youngest student was four years old (normally that is younger than I prefer). My oldest student was 94 when she started. I look for students who have serious intentions toward learning.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always look for the very best instructor you can find/afford. Your progress will be greatly enhanced. Hopefully the teacher and the student will genuinely enjoy one another.
