About
Welcome!
I’m a classically trained award-winning pianist with a Bachelor’s of Music in piano performance and piano pedagogy. In 2016, I began by assisting and teaching group/individual lessons at piano preparatory programs before transitioning to private lessons at my studio. Currently, I am finishing my Masters in piano performance at the University of Utah this upcoming fall. Regarding my pre-college to graduate years, I’ve studied with Dr. Yu-Jane Yang, Jeffrey Price, Vedrana Subotic, and Viktor Valkov. I’ve also participated in the Sid & Mary Foulger International Music Festival, the InterHarmony International Festival in Italy and spent a 2 week piano course in La Balie, France.
My teaching philosophy is focused on developing well-rounded musicians who are technically proficient, creatively expressive, and passionate about music. I have outlined here what I believe are essential to teaching.
1. Strong foundation: I believe in building a strong foundation of technique, theory, and musicality in my students. This includes developing good posture, hand position, and finger technique, as well as understanding music theory and interpretation.
2. Creativity: I encourage my students to be creative and explore their own musical ideas. I like to provide opportunities for my students to improvise/compose/arrange music and help them develop their own unique musical voice and thoughts.
3. Fostering a love of music: A love of music is essential for success in piano playing. I strive to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to enjoy the process of learning and playing music.
4. Setting high expectations: I believe that high expectations for my students will challenge them to reach their full potential. I strive to provide constructive feedback and help students develop a growth mindset by encouraging them to embrace challenges and learn from mistakes.
5. Tailored instruction to individual needs: Each student is unique and have their own strengths and weaknesses. My instruction is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, providing personalized feedback and guidance.
