Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I think it's most important that the student is excited about the piano. If they're not excited, they won't want to practice at all. When I get a new student, I like to get to know them and what about piano excited and interests them. We start from there and helping them find the balance between doing what they love while giving them challenges to improve and grow!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started out as a music composition major at Utah Valley University which required intense piano training and one on one lessons with a professional tutor. It was a great learning experience for me. I've always believed that the better you know something the more simply you can teach it. I've made it a focus to continue my music education so I can teach it better.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing is $45.00 a month for weekly 30 minute lessons or $68.00 a month for weekly 45 minute lessons. Refugees can take for free.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching way back in high school. It as a great side job. Since then, I lived in the Philippines serving a voluntary mission for the LDS church, got married, and had a baby. We're finally settling down in Provo for a little and I have a piano so I'm excited that teaching piano has become an option again for me!
What types of students have you worked with?
In piano lessons I've worked with kids 5-16 years old. I've also assisted in classrooms with severely disabled kids and would love to work with any kids with any kind of disabilities to learn piano.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The birth of our first baby boy has is definitely my fondest recent and un-recent memory. He's the best thing that's ever happened to us.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Consider your personality and what kind of teacher you would get along with. If you would thrive better with someone who is really strict and pushy, probably don't choose me! I like to challenge and push, but I like to enjoy the piano too!
