What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Lesson one asses the student's musical goals and their current understanding and skills.
2. Agree on a time frame to evaluate their progress an benefits from the new lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor of Integrated Studies from Weber State University, With emphasis in Music Education, Psychology, and Child Development.
20+ years as a corporate and vocational trainer. Specializing in big picture and why comprehension.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lesson fees are based on students efforts. Students who learn quickly, pay less per hour as they become competent through their own practice time. These students also take lessons longer as they continue to progress. Students that do not progress or practice at home are encouraged to save money and break from lessons until they are more committed.
How did you get started teaching?
I started sharing practices and theories with newer musicians when I was just 11 years old. As my skills and knowledge increased I increased the level of students.
I will collaborate with musicians that are more advanced than can instruct.
What types of students have you worked with?
Both young beginners and advanced audition prep.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't continue lessons if you are not learning.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your teaching style? Do you teach any theory or just technique? Will I be learning one song at a time or learning to read music and sight read?
