About

I studied violin performance and music education at Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. I have permanent NY teaching certificate and am certified in Suzuki method. Since getting married in 2003, I have lived in four different states with my family and absolutely loved all the adventures. I have taught privately since 2001 and taught at public schools and colleges in NY and IL. With my richly diverse experience in music, life and teaching, I provide the lesson catered to each student's needs.

I love the relationship I build with students and families. It really is life long. I have left a trail of studio families in NY, IL and WA, and love being a part of their lives.

My 10 year old son has been taking lessons with Mrs. Young for over a year. We have been impressed with her professionalism, her ability to connect with our son, how much our son has progressed, how much he loves going to lessons, and with how much Mrs. Young cares about our son (and our family). There are also opportunities for students to preform and the recitals are so much fun. We highly recommend Mrs. Young.

My 10-year-old has been having violin lessons with Young for almost 2 years now, and we absolutely adore her! She is punctual, passionate, and responsible, but most importantly, she is great at teaching. Young challenges her students when they are performing well, and she is very kind and precise in her instruction. While she is extremely kind, she also pays close attention to technique. My child thoroughly enjoys playing the violin and takes great pride in maintaining good technique taught by Ms. Young.

Frequently asked questions

I offer a 30 min trial lesson.  I need to make sure it is a good fit for both the student and I before we make a commitment.

During the trial lesson, I will 1) go over the basics of posture (beginner) or listen to the student and go over a lesson plan, 2) explain and provide the studio policy and 3) answer questions.

Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY.

BA in Violin Performance and Music Education

MM in Music Education

My lesson prices are set by the duration of lesson, it starts from $35 per 30 mins.

I started playing the violin at age 4 and that's pretty much all I did gowing up in Korea.  Teaching was a natural next step as I attended Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY.  As I began, I realized all those years of taking private lessons from all kinds of teachers gave me an amazing teaching background and enjoyed it tremendously.

I have taught a whole range of students, from 3 year olds in pre twinkle classes in Suziki Institute at Hochstein School of Music to adult students at community colleges.  I have sent students to music schools majoring in Violin performance from my private studio and have also taught music minors at liberal arts college.

Our last studio recital this April was very meaningful. All of the students worked hard and shined on stage.

Please look for a qualified teacher.  It is difficult to undo a bad habit on a musical instrument.  To master the correct basic posture and bow hold on a string instrument, one needs a teacher who has invested heavily in that field and reached a certain level of performance.

Anything and everything related to the lesson.  I believe in asking questions.  If there's any doubt or confusion, ask away.  It helps to understand the student better and definitely helps guide the lesson plan to meet the student's needs.
