"I am always looking for new tools to include in my teaching, and the Magnet Dry Erase Teacher and Student boards are my latest addition. Students love the small boards and can use them as they move around the room comparing answers with others. I also put these in my instrument bag when I travel to teach. I have a keyboard and a staff right at my fingertips no matter where I am. The kids love them!"

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I would evaluate where they are in the learning process of piano lessons.  Then from there, I have a proven method of teaching that works with my students of the past 40 years.

I offer private lessons, semi-private lessons (2 students) and group piano lessons.  (9 digital Yamaha keyboards)

Students approach learning differently.  I focus on their style of learning and teach using many different types of  visuals to teach music concepts.  Students get it.

My mission statement:  Develop FUNCTIONAL pianists!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

40 years of teaching piano! Accompanists, Choir

BYU student of Dr. Paul Pollei

MTNA member for 26 years

RMM trained nationally

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching 40 years ago after attending Brigham Young University.  I have many years of EXPERIENCE of what works and what does not work.

Many times students take piano for 10 or more years but really didn't learn important fundamentals that help them become independent learners.

What types of students have you worked with?

All ages and all levels.  I have students that have graduated in Piano Performance from major Universities.

My strengths that set me apart from other teachers is the technic that I teach.  (example: how to use your fingers, wrists, & arm weight)

I teach a pre-school/kindergarten group class.  (ages 4-6)

Jr. High, High School, College, and Adults.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

My annual performance of Monster Piano Concert at South Towne Mall.

I hold three piano recitals per year that offer students the opportunity to perform.

I use incentives in my studio to motivate students.  During the summer we had a piano olympics where students earned Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals.  They loved it!

I offer trophies for sight-reading levels that go from elementary thru college levels.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Take adavantage of the FREE trial lesson so that you can see if you and your teacher are a good fit.

Take from the best teacher that you can afford.  This saves you time and money.

Just because someone can play the piano, does not qualify that they know how to teach.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are your goals as a student?

Do you want to learn how to improvise?  chord? compose?
