Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every new student will have a free trial lesson. We'll discuss personal goals and how we can help you reach them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Dr. Johnathan Spence received his Doctorate of Music in Violin and Viola under the study of Hagai Shaham at Stony Brook University in 2017. He is also a graduate of East Carolina University, where he studied with Ara Gregorian. Focusing on his passion for teaching, Dr. Spence has returned to his home town where he is spreading his pedagogical methods to the Hampton Roads area. Dr. Spence performed his solo debut with the the Governor's School for the Arts in 2007 where he went on to perform on the stage of Boston Symphony Hall. He also participates in the Next Generation Series of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, during which the students selected for this program receive multiple opportunities to play side-by-side with world-renowned artists. He continues to play and perform in various chamber music festivals across the country.
Violinist Ava Figliuzzi is committed to bringing the joy of curiosity to her community and students through teaching and live chamber music.
