What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our new clients are treated like new old friends!
When you call in we will answer all your questions, depending upon your request, we will set your lesson on the schedule for as soon as possible.
When you come to the studio you will be asked to sign in (each time) and fill out a short registration sheet. Then we will introduce you to your amazing instructors.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Michael Scott ~Owner/Instructor/Champion
He founded Strictly Ballroom in 2002 and is thrilled to dance with his students each day.
His goal is to share the love and benifits of dancing by providing a family oriented, positive and knowledgebale atmasphere that allows students to interact with others and learn a life long skill.
Professionally, Michael is an American Smooth Champion finilist, he has coached many competive students, earned many Top Teacher and Top Studio awards.
He provided his skills and his studio to "Dancing with the Fredericksburg Stars" events from 2013 - 2015.
Strictly Ballroom has also hosted the Fredericksburg Junior Catillion for several years. We will be hosting again this year now that all the restrictions have been lifted.
In 2021; Michael opened a Dance Teacher College at his studio to futher encourage Students with their dancing and open instructor possibilities to those wishing to persue a career in dance.
He just thoroughhly enjoys helping people connect and communicate through dance with private lessons, group classes, dance socials and wedding preperation. There is also a weekly Ballroom Fitness and Junior group and New in 2021, daytime classesfor homeschool participants.
Michael believes that Dancing should know no limitations!

We do have standard pricing for our group classes.
$15 Per Group per person non-memeber
$10 Per Group per per person Member
We offer the first "Group Class" FREE for someone new to Studio. (Excluding Theme Socials)
Also, there are dicounted rates for our Veterns, First Responders (EMT's, Nurses, Officers with ID) and our Seniors!
We offer pro-rated memberships so your not paying for the months prior to Membership.
How did you get started teaching?
(Michael)"Enterestingly, I wanted to go to a Govoners Ball, I didn't have a clue how to dance. So I did what anyone would do and I took lessons. From there I was hooked!"
What types of students have you worked with?
We at Strictly Ballroom work with all Students. We welcome those with 'Two Left Feet' !
Our youngest student is 5yrs. old and our oldest compertitor /student was in her 80's.
Classes are offered for dance skills of all levels; from beginner to competitor!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
It would be hard to choose just one event as all our events are Special to us. We recently went back to Compition, first since Covid. That felt pretty awesome.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
There is alot to take in when looking for any instructor:

Reputation of Studio & their instructors
Talk with other students.
SBDS offers a free group to first time students to try it out!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
* What type of dancing do you want to learn?
* Will the Instructor be able to meet my needs?
*Where is Studio located, are you willing to drive?
*Do they require a contract? Are they pushy about it?
* What is their availability; will it match mine?
