Brobst Music Studio
About
Violin and viola lessons at all levels and lessons for beginning harp. 40 years teaching experience. My mission is to provide a mentoring environment for all motivated students to enable them to realize their musical dreams from the simple joy of creating a pleasing sound to obtaining a career in music.
I love the thrill of seeing the student smile when they hear the beautiful sound they created on their violin or viola. My specialty is patience. I know the challenge of this instrument and each player's unique way of learning and that's what I enjoy most about teaching: unlocking the student's mind and getting them to understand the mechanics of the instrument and musical components.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I tailor my curriculum to each student's unique learning style and have a wide assortment of method, technique and repertoire books on hand. For beginning violin and viola, I use rote learning using the Suzuki method books. Within a short time, I introduce note reading and work on sight-reading so students will feel confident in any ensemble. My students are treated with kindness, patience and respect for their individuality and goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an orchestral and chamber music performer with decades of professional experience in addition to an equal amount of teaching experience. I have taught in many roles such as youth orchestra conductor, coach, adjudicator and classroom teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are typically half hour at $40/hr. Also offering 45 minute lessons for $55 and hour lessons for $70. All lessons are billed monthly through PayPal.
How did you get started teaching?
Years ago, I was assisting customers in my family's violin business and customers began to request lessons from me. I found I enjoyed it so much, I decided to teach as a fulltime career.
What types of students have you worked with?
Typically, my students are of school age and have started their instrument in their school string orchestra class. They usually come to me looking for further guidance in improving their grades and moving up to higher levels school ensembles and youth orchestras. I also teach many young children as young as age 4. All ages are welcome and I have had many adult students over the years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who seeks to understand you as a unique individual with specific learning needs who is kind and patient but will also challenge you.
