Hi, my name is Jane.
I am a FCPS elementary school teacher from Florida and I teach 1st grade.
I grew up playing the violin (my mother was a violinist as well). I received my first violin on my 7th Christmas and I quickly joined the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, which I stayed with until my senior year of high school.
I continue to play the violin, just for fun. Honestly, I do not have any experience teaching the violin but I do know how kids work and I was a student myself.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I make sure that my student feels comfortable. I don't want them to feel judged ever, but this is a chance for them to learn something new and continue growing.
I'm very much into the basics so we'll be sure to start with proper bow holding and scales and arpeggios. I also like to take into consideration what the student wants to achieve from the lessons so they feel more ownership over their learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I teach 1st grade at a FCPS school. This gives me the education and training necessary for working with younger students.
