Beauty for Ashes Contemporary School of Dance (BFACSD) is a performing arts organization that includes a repertory dance theater company (Riddick Dance). Both build bridges of understanding through the presentation, instruction and celebration of choreographic works, focusing on under-served communities while also addressing the broader public. As an independent non-profit organization the mission of BFACSD is twofold: to educate and create in the realm of contemporary dance.
I love giving back to our youth I feel arts Saves Lives. I love to see my students development not just in the form of dance but also emotionally, mentally and physical.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have students come in and journal before starting any class. After that we begin to explain with them the etiquette and expecations of the class. Then we do a meet and great follow by a hug then we get to work. I usually watch the student in three classes before giving correction so I can see what they can or cannot do.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Artistic & Executive Director
David Riddick, a native of Newport News, Virginia, is the founder and Executive and Artistic Director. He has trained extensively under Valeria Sinyavskya from Russia who was the pupil of Agrippina Vaganova. David is a teacher in the following areas of dance techniques: Vaganova (Ballet), Graham, Horton, African, Jazz, Hip Hop and Liturgical. His passion is to train, instruct and inspire those with aspirations to become professional dancers and choreographers. While working at Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center of Newport News, Virginia. Mr. Riddick was an Assistant Program Director managing the departments dance, theater, music and arts.

$80.00 is the normal tutiiton at our organzation.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching at Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center putting on shows teaching in thelocal community theatres.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types from all races and economic backgrounds

We hold four major concerts a year and I LOVE IT
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just come in with a open mind and willing to work hard .
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Talk to you teacher/ director about your plans and be prepared for them to guide you.
