Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out their level of experience and typically pick a style of dance and music that suits their interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I took dance as a child, was on a dance team for a semi-pro arena football team and have been a director/instructor/choreographer for the fitness program Dance Trance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$75 for an hour. $50 an hour for semi-private lessons max. 3 people.
How did you get started teaching?
Part of my own development as a dancer
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginners who've never learned choreography to students who need a choreographed routine for a performance.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Virginia Dance Festival - where we take a group of students and instructors and turn them into a full-fledge dance squad.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick a teacher you get along with, who is good at the style you want to learn - rather than just picking someone who says they're good at all dance.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How committed will they be?
How well do they rebound from mistakes or challenges (adversity)?
How much time are they willing to dedicate to learning dance, which is essentially like learning a new language.
