About
I have been offering fun and personalized piano, violin, and viola instruction since 2004. My top priority is making sure my students are getting the best musical education to meet their goals. That is why I offer a FREE introductory lesson for new students to make sure we are a good fit.
I am a classically trained pianist and violinist with 25 years playing experience and I hold a level 10 certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music. I am also an active member of the Puyallup Valley Music Teachers Association and the state and national organizations—WSMTA and MTNA. My teaching style prioritizes clear, compassionate communication, collaboration, and mindful practice strategies. I like to give options and tools for overcoming playing challenges creatively. I am not a 'one size fits all' advocate by any means. My hope is that you leave feeling excited to show up and play your instrument once you get home. Besides that, lessons integrate a blend of technique, music theory, classical repertoire, folk tunes, and student requests. I do prioritize reading music even if you can play by ear. I believe this opens the most opportunities for you as a musician and will give you the most out of our time together. I also highly value proper playing technique and postures that help alleviate tension that can lead to chronic pain and injury over time. I am more than happy to chat with you about your needs and what I offer. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me!

How did you get started teaching?
My violin teacher in highschool said "The best way to really learn is to teach." She was right! I student taught under her guidence from age 16 and haven't stopped since!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with kiddo's as young at 4, kids at heart in retirement, and everything inbetween. The only type of student I usually pass on to other teachers would be those who have thier sights set on high-level competitions and performance opportunities. I do offer performance opportunities however my favorite way of teaching music is as a way to connect with eachother and ourselves in meaningful ways.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Teaching at the music store where I took my very first violin lesson. It was so sweet to give back at a place that gave me so much as a kid.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Personality is important. It's not all about credentials. Remember you will most likely be spending one-on-one time with this person every week. You will learn so much faster if you enjoy it!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do you want to perform? Play with others in a group? Play just for yourself? Think about what made you want to play in the first place and be sure to tell a new teacher what that was. It's always important to communicate favorite styles of music or styles you are not interested in playing.
