About
524 Jefferson St SE, Olympia WA 98501
SSO has been open since September 2020 and we have grown to two locations in Olympia, one of which is right in the Capital Mall. We have 9 teachers and cover just about every instrument from ukulele to piano to oboe and the orchestral strings. Reach out to get started!
We believe that we learn music in order to share it with others. In keeping with that we offer several unique performance opportunities for our students throughout the year, including a concert made up of video game and movie music themes.
We are currently working on operating a recording studio space within our building so we can record our students and instructors as well as offer it as a service to local music teachers and studios.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students are given an opportunity to interview and meet with an instructor to make sure that the fit is right. At that time they can ask questions and hopefully set up a schedule to get started. The first lessons are fun as the instructors get to know their student and to develop a pace and expectations with the student. Parents are often involved as well, to make sure that they have a good idea how practicing should be conducted at home.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studies and degrees in piano performance, music composition, vocal performance including opera, bass performance, guitar and ukulele. On top of all of that we have decades of experience working with hundreds of students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
We each have our own story, but most of us started at a young age with other people in our lives who thought they would like to learn to play. Teaching is a great way to solidify knowledge in yourself as you try to explain ideas to map that idea in someone else's mind.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with students of all ages and abilities. We take on students who are highly skilled and serious in their pursuit of classical performance perfection, as well as the more casual learner or the retiree who wants to keep their own minds sharp.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Opening the doors to Sound Studios Olympia was a dream come true. We moved pianos in, set up the spaces, hung the business license on the wall, and got right to work on bringing in new students. We have now over 80 among us and we are open to a whole lot more.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Personality is key. Find a teacher who you can get along well with and makes you comfortable. Mistakes will be made, and if you can laugh about them instead of feel self conscious, you will be better off.
