Sound Studios Olympia
About
I am a classically trained musician with forward thinking approach to lessons. My method revolves around helping the student make discoveries. I ask a lot of questions, engage, and encourage. I have had students compete at high levels in contests, perform concertos, and write music for public performances. My only requirement for my studio is that the participants be willing to learn and excited by music! Easy! I am a classically trained oboist, pianist and composer. Visit my website (www.srmeloystudio.com) for more information.
I enjoy working with students and other instructors on beautiful and challenging music to create programs and performances to share with the community.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When starting with a new student who has never played anything before, or who is a young beginner, I like to keep the lessons enjoyable and light. I set up right away a process for discovery, for asking questions, and for problem solving. With older students and those who have played already I start by assessing their ability and goals. From there we move forward with the goal in mind. My approach is individual to each student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
PLU where I studied music composition and oboe performance.
I have been playing piano my entire life as well as writing music.
I spent 2 years conducting the Junior Symphony in the Capital Area Youth Symphony Association.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a fee per lesson, per student (in the case of multiple students in one lesson). The charge is for every lesson offered and is expected to be paid in advance, once a month or quarter or 6 month period. Discounts are offered for payments over the quarter and 6 month periods.
How did you get started teaching?
When I moved to Olympia I reached out to the musical community and was met with an offer to apply for the conductor position of the youth symphony (CAYSA). I did get the job and after that I was invited to teach out of a studio at Yenney Music (www.yenneymusic.com) which is where I am to this day.
What types of students have you worked with?
Nearly all ages, with wide ranging abilities and goals in mind.
