I offer in-home piano lessons for students of all ages, 6 and up. I received my formal education at the University of Kansas, as a Master's of Music Education with a minor in piano performance. Afterward, I had the privilege of studying with one of the great masters of the instrument, Sir Wladimir Kochanski, for six years at his home in Oceanside, CA.
Although my formal training is classically traditional, my approach to teaching is not. I have pioneered several innovations in the art of teaching this instrument which overcome many of the usual suspects which tend to bog down the learning process and make it unenjoyable for some students.
My greatest joy is in inspiring a new generation of pianists, in nurturing a joy of music-making, and in cultivating a passion for creative expression through this instrument in each one of my students. Music should be joyful, and so should be learning it. I believe there's a reason we call it "playing" music. It should be fun, not a chore. My goal is to make expressing yourself though music feel as natural as breathing or walking. I have taught music lessons for over 20 years – most of my adult life – and successfully trained hundreds (maybe thousands) of students while I lived in the Midwest. Now, I am bringing that same dedication to the craft to Seattle, and I could not be more excited!
I am a classically trained pianist. I have my Master's in Music Education from the University of Kansas, and have studied post-graduate under some of the top names in the classical world, including Celia Goering and Sir Wladimir Jan Kochanski.
I have been studying the piano for over 40 years, and teaching for over 2 decades. I have tought hundreds of students, some of whom now work as performing artists in the industry.
