Dr. Kelley Marie Johnson hails from Utah and the Wasatch mountains. She was the concertmaster of the Utah All-State orchestra and since in her community and university orchestras. In addition, she has held contracts with several professional symphonies including the Flagstaff Symphony, Quad Cities Symphony, and Orchestra Iowa. Her studies have taken her south to Arizona (NAU- BM/BME), east to Texas (UTA, MM and a graduate performance certificate), north to Iowa where she earned her Doctorate (DMA) at the University of Iowa with Dr. Scott Conklin , and north to Michigan to teach at the Interlochen Arts Festival for several summers before she relocated to the Seattle area in 2010.
Growing up in a family of musicians has given Dr. Johnson the unique opportunity of playing in an ensemble since she began at age six. Still today, chamber music continues to be one of her greatest passions and she is an active supporter of classical music for the 21st century. She premiers and records for contemporary composers, including Grammy nominated ‘Eventide” with Jennifer Thomas. In addition to performing, Dr. Johnson also gives workshops on Capet technique, and is developing tools to provide online training for string teachers and students. She actively pursues, conducts, and publishes research into successful pedagogical techniques, and was a co-founder of the Seattle Ensign Symphony and Chorus. She has been active with ASTA organizations at the state and national levels and published with them. She is also a certified teacher both nationally with MTNA and in two states where she had led award winning orchestras, chamber ensembles, and a strong performance studio. For fun- she enjoys learning new things, connecting with friends and family, cooking, and gardening.
