Parents of current students - “We have two daughters who take fiddle lessons from Heather. They have been with Heather for four and a half years. Each daughter takes an individual lesson weekly. The lessons are adapted to each child’s playing level. The girls have opportunities for both individual and group performances. Over the years their knowledge of Irish fiddle music has expanded greatly. They learn songs by ear and by reading sheet music. They have also been given the opportunity and encouraged to compose their own works. We highly recommend Heather as a teacher. She has instilled a love of music in my girls.”

“I enjoy taking lessons with Ms. Heather because I learn a new song in every lesson. She is always willing to help with anything. She gives you resources to use if you get stuck, like sheet music and recording of her playing the songs that we are working on. Ms. Heather helps you to understand why you are doing something, instead of just having you do it. And, over the course of my lessons with Ms. Heather, I have learned around 93 pieces of music.”

    Frequently asked questions

I assess the students' current skill set and we develop a plan that best suits their goals. I am equally comfortable teaching beginners through advanced players.

Styles include: Classical, Suzuki/Rolland hybrid, Fiddle (Irish, Old-Time, Bluegrass, Blues, Rock, Pop)

Ear training, sight reading, composing, chords, backing, and improvisation are all taught as important aspects of being a well-rounded musician. Can also provide advice on looping, multi-effects pedals, & recording tips.

I encourage students to play in bi-annual recitals, local jam sessions, orchestras, bands, and I provide other performance opportunities whenever possible.
