About

My teaching approach:

I teach rhythm and lead guitar, music theory, chords, scales, technique, and music reading for music notation and tablature. I teach my students how all of these elements of playing the guitar relate to one another. It is my goal as a guitar teacher to teach my students to play the guitar effectively in order for them to play any style. I also work on style specific techniques and musical concepts if the student is interested in learning a particular style. I am always glad to help my students with any songs they are learning. I teach electric, acoustic, bass, and classical guitar.

My influences are:

Marvin McCombs, Cary Roberts, Lamar Morris, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Al Di Meola, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Andrew York, Roland Dyens, Julian Bream, Andres Segovia, John Williams, Ana Vidovic, Django Reinhardt, Romane, Bireli Lagrene, Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Metallica, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray,Jonny Lang

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

If the student is a beginner, I begin the first lesson with basic elements of the guitar such as: the parts of the guitar, tuning, the proper positioning of the guitar, correct hand placement, picking and strumming technique, an exercise to help with coordination of the hands, and some basic chords. If the student is already playing the guitar, I spend some time evaluating what they know and I proceed according to the students playing level.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I generally begin the lesson by making sure the student understands the material covered in the previous lesson. From there, I begin covering new material. I teach my students how chords, scales, technique, and music theory work together. The student can use their understanding of this material to accompany other musicians, improvise, write music, and learn songs. I also use well known songs to demonstrate how the material is used in songs.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Anyone whom is willing to learn and put reasonable effort into practicing lesson material on the guitar.
