What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is familiarization with the instrument. I give a brief overview of it's parts and their functions, how to hold it properly, hand placement, then strum technique. Next, we're onto a a few major chords and transitions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
25+ years experience

How did you get started teaching?
I'd never really considered giving lessons until I taught a couple of friends many years ago. I'd only been playing a couple years at that time, and being self taught, I didn't think I was even qualified to give instruction. However, I gave it a shot, and while teaching my friends guitar, I learned a lot about teaching. They learned quickly, and credited my teaching style for their success. Eventually, I began giving lessons, and developing an efficient & effective teaching method. Over the years, I've honed my skills as a musician, as well as teacher. I consider music a gift from Above, and it's a great feeling when I can share what I know, to pass the magic on.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Seek out an instructor who will teach you how to play what you want to play, who understands the style & sound you're going for, and has the musical vocabulary to know how to get you there in good time, and leaves you with the tools to progress & improve.* Find a teacher that loves music as much as you love music. *
