The Providence Music Method:
The methods and techniques used at Providence have been gleaned from some of the top music teachers and musicians in the world. Students will use music and materials from a wide variety of publishers. Typical classes or lessons for piano or wind instruments will include the following:
- demonstration and practice of good playing technique
- scales, chords, and exercises to develop technique
- ear songs and improvisation, so the student may apply all of the above to making music
- reading musical notation
- counting and playing rhythms, and movement to rhythm
- reinforcement of all of the above through workbooks or computer software
- listening to demonstrations or recordings
- performance of assigned pieces for teacher or small group
- playing ensemble pieces or duets with the teacher
- students composing and playing their own original compositions
