About

Hello there!

My name is Sydney and I am a developing muscian who greatly enjoys sharing and teaching music with others. I have taught private piano lessons for about 5 years for both adults and childern 4 years and older. I play a variety of instruments myself, including piano, violin, and voice (and I dabble in many others) with piano being my primary focus. I also have experiance teaching childern through 4-H and in a classroom setting as an afterschool tutor.

My teaching style caters more to those looking to enrich their lives or their childern's lives with music education rather than those with an end goal of a musical career. Music is an excellent hobby for anyone and everyone to help develop focus techniques and relax while learning! I am highly adaptable to each individual's learning style and utilize a variety of games and hands-on practice to help students learn the fundaments. My lessons are generally 30 minutes once a week and on average we do 20 minutes of direct music practice and 10 minutes of music theory, history, and related topics. I can also do 45 minute or 1 hour lessons for those looking for a more in-depth weekly lesson. In addition to piano fundamentals, you can expect to learn how to read sheet music and all about classical composers and music history in my lessons. I always encourage students to practice at home, and while my reccomended amount of practice time will vary based on age and music level, keep in mind that the more you practice, the more effeciently you can progress!

As my music lessons are catered more towards hobbyists, I understand that life is chaotic and busy especially with all that is currently happening in our world. I do not require advanced payments for lessons (you can pay weekly), and I have a flexible cancellation and rescheduling policy. I am also capable of doing video lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic. For those with no background in music, I do reccomend at least a few in-person lessons before transitioning to online. In-person lessons are held at my home. Currently, social distancing will be followed to the best of my ability and masks are required. I also make sure to clean all work areas and the paino before and after each student to minimize risk.

I have taught from a variety of piano books and methods and, while I have my favorites, will pick a circulum that fits the student. The first lesson is spent evaluating the student's music level and deciding on a circulum that best suits their needs, age, and goals. Books are not included in the cost of the lesson, and please expect to spend between $15-$30 on music books every 3-8 months. The wide range in the cost of the books is due to the pace of progression, age, and goals of the student.

Whether you are looking for lessons for yourself or your child, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

The best part about this work is seeing people step out of their comfort zone to learn something new and challenge themselves, and then subsequently they discover just how easy learning to play the piano actually is. Music can be a lifelong pursuit if you chose it to be; it is not just for concert-hall professionals or rock stars. For me, music is an outlet for my stress and worries. It hones your mind onto melodies and harmonies so that your brain is still engaged and learnig, but at the same time rest of your day gets to melt away during your music session. Its essential for young childern's developing study habits and focusing skills, while instilling calmess. What I teach is the fundamentals for students, no matter if they are starting as a young child or an adult, so that they can if they so choose branch out in the future to other musical endeavors (learning different instruments, taking classes, etc). Learning to read sheet music, play the piano, and truely understand music doesn't have to require thousands of hours of commitment. It is a thrill and privledge for me to help others achieve their musical goals at their own unique pace.

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, I like to take about a half hour to assess the student's music level and prefered method of learning. I believe that both the student and myself should feel comfortable at all times during our lessons and that is always my goal in teaching. After the first lesson and intial introductions, I will custom-tailor a circulum to fit any new student.

I have played paino since the age of 3, having taken lessons myself for approximately 10+ years and continuing to practice daily since. I have also played violin for over 5 years, and have been involved in a local chamber orchestra. In the past I have been a part of various choirs, and was honored to be the co-director for a local childern's choir for two years. I grew up in 4-H, and was a junior and teen leader for many years. One of my focus projects was Music, and I helped teach piano and other instruments in a group setting. I began privately teaching music as a substitute music teacher, and from there gained my own set of students. Before Covid, I was employed as an afterschool classroom tutor where I helped elementary students develop reading, spelling, and math skills. I am currently still developing my music skills as I work towards a music minor in college.

Generally, I offer a 30-minute lesson once weekly for $20 per week. I have discounted rates for longer lessons, or multiple times per week, or for families with multiple students. Please contact me for more details.

I began music teaching during high school as a substitute music teacher for my family's hobby music business. As I grew in my teaching knowledge and skills, as well as age, I lost the substitute part of my title and gained my own set of students.

I primarily work with students the ages of 6-13, but I have priorly worked with students between the ages of 4-60. No one is too young or old to begin their music journey! As I am still developing in my own musical journey, I prefer to teach begineers and early intermediate students. I have also in the past taught introductory violin and voice upon request.

I would advise any student to find a teacher that suits their goals. Find someone who specializes in your prefered genre (classical, jazz, pop, etc) and is compatible with how much commitment you are willing to put into your music.
