About

I am a professional harpist, pianist, violinist, and organist, with 10+ years of experience in teaching music lessons. I currently teach piano, harp, and violin. If parents/guardians of students prefer, I also offer teaching Bible memorization with hand motions to children, before or after their music lessons.

Frequently asked questions

I first like to get to know a bit about my student's background, musical tastes, and areas of strength and weakness. Sometimes this is by talking with parents/guardians (for younger students), or with the student if they are older.

I studied piano under Dr. Linda Beckman at John Brown University. I studied violin under Dr. Scott Buss at the Institute of Music, Worship, and the Arts, where I also received an A.A. in Music and Worship Ministry. I was trained intensively in harp performance and pedagogy by Dr. Lawrence Odom, who was and international concert harpist and the White House harp soloist during the Kennedy Administration and for several presidents following. I also received harp training from Dr. Laura Logan at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. I have also received training in flute, guitar, and pipe organ, though I concentrate my own teaching on piano, harp, and violin.

$80 per month for 4 half-hour lessons, or $20/half hour. I generally charge by the month for lessons, and always make sure to give my students my undivided, concentrated attention for the full amount they pay, and give extra time when needed.

I began teaching piano while I was in high school, and continued building my music studio through the years.

I have worked with students of multiple ethnicities, backgrounds, and ages, ranging from 4-year-olds through adults.

It is important to hire a music teacher who is ethical in business practice, who gives a student high-quality instruction for every minute they are paid to give. My policy is to treat my students and their families as I myself would want to be treated by a music instructor. I treat my students and their families with kindness and respect, and find that affirmation, positive reinforcement, kindness, patience, and genuine praise are the best avenues for encouraging students' growth and progress.
