Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I evaluate the students ability level by asking them what their level of experience is, if they've taken music lessons in the past for guitar or another instrument, if they've played guitar or another instrument in school/band etc.
I ask the student what their musical interets are, style goals etc.
I provide students with lesson materials in printed format, PDF, mp3 etc that suite their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from Arizona State University.
Attended Mesa Community College Music Program
Extensive private lessons with a variety of teachers for guitar, bass guitar and drum set.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have many packages available. Prices depend on lesson length and frequency. I offer a free consultation to see what works best for you.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching in a music store in Phoenix in 2007.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and ability levels. From complete beginner to experienced players.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Earning my bachelor degree in music performance from ASU.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who has a degree in music. There are many guitar teachers out there, but many have not been trained by professionals or studied music at the universtiy level. An teacher who has studied from great teachers is more likely to be a great teacher themselves.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I have a guitar or if not am I willing to buy one?
Am I willing to put in the practice time necessary to progress with my instrument.
