Kierstyn's School Of Music
About
Over the past six years, I have taught 50+ students how to use piano, guitar, drums, and saxophone to learn their absolute favorite songs. I teach all levels of experience on all four instruments, and I strive to be versatile and competent in every genre-- I've played everything from pop to ragtime to classical to jazz, and have a repertoire of over 1,000 memorized songs. Basically, if there is a song you'd like to learn, I will do my absolute best to make sure you learn it. :)
I have played hundreds of events including high profile ASU events, weddings, memorials, corporate events, private parties, festivals, and church fairs. I was the pianist in residence as Northminister Presbyterian Church and am currently musician in residence at Roosevelt Community Church.
I recently graduated summa cum laude with a degree in music theory & composition (emphasis in piano) from Arizona State University. I have received commissions from the Ironwood and Imagine Prep High Schools, the ASU Barrett Choir, The Phoenix Art Museum, and the ASU Art Museum. In 2014, I won first place in the statewide Women's Composers Competition, and my score for the play "Poseidon's Regret" received a nomination for a 2016 ariZoni award.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will ask you to list out five to ten songs/pieces you'd like to learn, and then I carve out a personal path for you to be able to learn all of them, in order from least to most challenging. I may bring in classical, jazz, or popular music techniques to aid you in learning the songs. I put a strong emphasis on memorization and theory-- I want you to be able to understand the songs you are learning and also memorize them so you can play and enjoy them the rest of your life!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor's Degree in Music Theory & Composition from Arizona State University.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$50 per hour ($25 per half hour)
I charge a flat rate for my time; the instrument or service needed doesn't impact the rate. :)
