When I work with new students I conduct an assessment that helps me measure the level that a student performs at. Our first lessons includes a series of questions that helps me understand what the student's musical goals are. After the assessment, I can then create lesson plans that help the student reach their goals.

I was also the music theory tutor at Phoenix College when I was completing my Associate Degree.
I started teaching family members and friends. Being at ASU has also provided me with many opportunities to teach students of multiple ages and skill levels.

Advise for seeking a teacher is, making sure they are certified or complting certification to teach. Making sure that they have a clear background and that you have a good relationship with the instructor.
The student should have a clear understanding on what they want to learn. Students should consider learning music theory in their lessons.
