_I am a Guitarist, Singer-Songwriter & Composer, specializing in ‘finger-style’ playing on Acoustic & Electric guitars in many genres from Rock-styles like “Dust in the Wind” and the Beatles “Blackbird” to Jazz Improvisation to my specialty in Classical-Flamenco.

🎸GUITAR
_Beginner ~ Intermediate ~ Advanced
_To begin, you will learn basic chords, strumming patterns, TAB/tablature, and basic scales in the ‘open/1st position’ of the guitar, and correct right & left hand positions. These basics are fundamental to every style of guitar playing.
_As you progress, we move on to finger-style playing, advanced Barre-Chords, Jazz Chords, Improvisation, Pentatonic & Modal Scales, Arpeggios, further
exploration of the entire fretboard, and discovering the myriad of colours the guitar is capable of achieving.
_You will learn to Read Music on the guitar, explore and grow in your understanding of the many ‘Music Theories’ in our world.
_If you are just beginning in guitar*, I like students to have in mind a few songs by their favourite artists/composers they are interested in learning. This way we can direct your skills needed to achieve your personal tastes in music.

_Above all, singing should feel relaxed and natural.
_Exploring your own voice is an experience unique to each person. It is exciting for you to discover the unique colours and qualities of your own voice.
_I have coached many of my students to develop their voice properly, thereby becoming more confident with their own voice & style of singing. Each voice is unique, so I feel it is most important to discover ‘your own unique qualities’ and develop them into your own personal singing style.
_This is achieved by defining your vocal range, intonation, diction, breath support, phrasing and expressiveness that is ‘unique to your voice’.
_As a Vocal Coach, I can assist you with your original/cover songs to be performance or recording ready.
_As a Singer-Songwriter, I can assist you in the completion of your original songs or your unique covers with Structure, Melody, Lyrics & Vocals.

BRIEF BIO
_🎓 I received my Bachelor of Music degree (1983) from the University of Minnesota in Composition/Theory and Classical Guitar. I also sang as a Tenor in the University Symphony Chorus & studied Orchestral Conducting.
_🎸With many years of experience in teaching & performing, I have privately taught guitar and musical composition since my early days at University to students from ages 6 up to 82 years!
_🎵I taught Guitar, Vocals, Songwriting, Composition and full-Rock Bands as an instructor at Guitar Center Studios, Phoenix from 2014 to 2019.
_🎙I was lead Singer-Songwriter for my Rock-Fusion Band “Tain Reimei” in the early 90’s in Minneapolis, playing night clubs like First Avenue.

My primary joy in teaching is seeing my students evolve from what they thought was very difficult, to them finding pleasure in their accomplishments both technically and musically. Whether it is just to sing better, play a song on the guitar or prep you for a performance or even prepare you for entrance into Music School at a University.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First to discover what the students personal goals are musically and then to begin a plan of study that directs them to achieve their individual tastes. Music is vast in its diversity and methods vary according to the students desires and comfort level.

One of my best students has just tested into the Music School at ASU Arizona State University with a scholarship and is actively pursuing a career in Music Therapy at ASU.
