About

As a lifelong lover of music, I've been actively studying and pursing music for the past forty years. I have copious amounts of songwriting, recording, and performing

experience. I've intermittently been an instructor and mentor during a majority of this period as well. My formal musical training coupled with my years of practical application have given me a broad base of knowledge in the world of music that I wish to share with

willing students.

I've had the pleasure to work with all ages (6-76), abilities (ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome) and experience levels. I personally tailor each lesson according to what the student wants and needs to learn in order to attain the level they're looking to achieve. I hope to help cultivate a healthy respect and love of music with each student.

I love that John will get a technical as you want to go. For me, I was wanting something nice and light and he helped me learn the correct fingers to use, chords, and some scales to practice. He even taught me how to change the strings on my guitar!! Super chill dude and doesnt make you feel guilty if you cant practice that much. Totally recommend!

John came to our family thru a guitar lessons service and is our 3rd instructor but easily the best one we have had in 2 years! He listens to Dylan (10 years old) and tailors Dylans lessons to what Dylan wants to learn and pushes him to learn more.
John instills confidence in Dylan in such a way that Dylan has grown so much more in his lessons than before with our previous instructors. John has also adjusted his schedule when we needed to and also provided great zoom lessons when covid had the state shut down.
I would highly recommend John for music lessons for anyone/everyone!

    Frequently asked questions

In the initial meeting I assess the student's wants and needs. This allows me to tailor interesting yet challenging lessons to further their progress. The process varies according to the student's level of musical familiarity. In all cases, I ensure that there is an attentiveness to technique in order to develop beneficial playing habits.

I've also been actively performing in bands since 1991.

I began teaching my junior year of high school.  My Classical Guitar instructor was also the head of the Music Department and didn't really play guitar. He was a Classical Pianist and could impart the theories quite well, but was challenged by the physical dynamics on the guitar.  I approached him regarding this fact and offered my services and thus became a student teacher for the beginning Classical Guitar class.

I have worked with a wide range of ages (6 - 74), abilities (Down Syndrome, Autism, ADD/ADHD) and experience levels.  I've taught a range of styles (rock/blues/jazz/classical) as well.

I'm always fond of playing live shows with my band. The ability to musically connect not only with my fellow band mates, but then also to an audience, is an experience I'm pretty sure I'll never tire of.

Be sure you're ready to devote the time and energy needed to attain whatever level you're looking to achieve. Find a teacher that inspires you to do so.

What is it that you're looking to get out of playing the guitar?   How much time and effort to do you have to dedicate to it?
