About

Amikaeyla has been teaching the art of voice for over 15 years. Her stylized technique for instruction through the combined use of ear training for lead & harmony vocalization; scat improvisational theory through diction and pronunciation work; & breath technique for both healthful singing and speaking has lead her to critical acclaim with singers, actors, performing artists, and public speakers in both entertainment and corporate settings.

Winner of eight Washington Area Music Association Awards, including Best Jazz Vocalist, Best Urban Contemporary Vocalist, & Best World Music Vocalist, Ami has been proclaimed as one of the “purest contemporary voices...” by National Public Radio, and has been described by MTV like “listening to velvet waterfalls”. She has studied, recorded with, and shared the stage with many award winning, world class legends such as Take 6, Sweet Honey In The Rock, Baba Olatunji, Mickey Hart, Gil Scott Heron, Wyclef, and Pete Seeger just to name a few, and was asked by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to sing at the Inaugural Festival of Sacred Chanting and Singing in India. Named best female composer in 2006, 2008 and 2010-2011 by the Maryland State Arts Council, she has produced, written and directed for Theater, Radio, TV, & Film, giving her an intimate in-depth ability to guide her students in the art of successful auditioning. Her techniques have successfully been used for actors as well as musicians, and most recently for contestants on the national television shows the X-Factor and The Voice, and internationally on the first “Palestinian Idol” for which she was an International Celebrity Judge.

Working on both the east and west coast as a professional instructor, vocal producer, composer & arranger, she is currently accepting new students for her studio teaching all styles, levels, and ages for stage work (such as performing, public speaking), or studio work (such as recording, voice-over work). She specializes in a variety of classical and popular music styles such as opera, musical theater, rhythm and blues, world, folk, country, gospel, funk, and jazz. Through extensive formal training in anatomy and human kinetics, Amikaeyla has worked with many clients to assist with vocal node repair, and her vocal technique and musicianship provides the fundamental knowledge of theory and voice study needed to acquire a firm understanding of the inner workings of the principal concepts of dynamism and dramatic intensity for interpretation and effect without inflicting vocal damage as well as ways to augment and sustain vocal power throughout the length of a performance by strengthening the falsetto, tessitura, and vibrato to prepare you to be a better musician and a more in-demand vocalist.
