Robert Perez Piano Lessons
About
I am a pianist with expertise in a variety musical styles, whether it be jazz, solo classical piano, chamber music, soul, rock, etc. I graduated from CalArts in 2018 with a MFA in piano performance, and also in 2015 with a BFA in jazz keyboard. In 2017 and 2013, I was one of the few selected winners of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer award.
I have experience teaching all levels of students, whether they be at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced level. I am particularly interested in teaching students in a very holistic way, having them work on piano repertoire, improvisation, jazz, accompaniment, theory, and whatever else the student may be interested in.
I particularly enjoy those breakthrough moments where the student is finally able to do something they couldn't previously do with ease, especially after consistent hard work. There's no substitute for consisitency, and when a student can enjoy the process and reap the fruit of that consistency, it makes for an especially enjoyable time playing music, for both me as a teacher as well as the student.
