About
I have 30 years experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. I love what I do for a living and truly care for my students and their dreams. My students are chosen for leads and supporting roles in musical theater, concert solos and ensembles, plus awarded scholarships as Freshmen to many colleges. Not only do I teach sound vocal skills, but my students are trained in presenting a song, preparing for auditions & competitions, using a microphone, managing anxiety, networking and more.
As for piano, I've been playing since I was 7! I was trained with sound fundamentals and a variety of musical styles. It is a joy to watch students of all ages accomplish the skills required to play well and find repertoire that is exciting. Technique is so important, so I am a stickler with hand position and keeping an eye on the music rather than hands; good posture is also vital. Once fundamentals are underway, we can introduce improvisation and theory. Piano is wonderful for ALL and offers many benefits beyond music-making (math, languages, trouble-shooting, concentration). A piano or keyboard is required for students. If you don't have an instrument, I MIGHT have a keyboard to loan until you can purchase one yourself.
There is nothing more enjoyable than watching my students progress week by week. It's such fun to see dreams come true!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All skills are based on sound fundamentals. I first listen to a student sing a song they enjoy and I assess what is needed. I give examples of what I can do to improve their voice, then begin with information that the student can take home and use. I give specific vocal exercises and a song to work on "as an exercise" within the first few lessons. Everyone is different, so the pace in which we progress varies; eventually all get their voices "open and free" to sing with a balanced and beautiful sound.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Music in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Continue performing career.

How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching piano and voice lessons since graduating from Graduate school. Once again, it is something I love deeply and feel very confident in doing. I have helped hundreds of students achieve their goals and some high and lofty dreams! It's truly a privilege and a lot of fun!
