Ray L. says, "Dubravka (Duba) is a great teacher and very diligent in her efforts to teach foundational vocal technique. I have started this process late in life (I am 70 years old) and have developed many bad habits while singing in a band. Duba is able to focus in on the adjustments I need to make to improve quickly. I get a lot of value out of my 1 hour weekly lesson. I have received several compliments from my band mates as well as strangers in church regarding my improving vocal abilities." Read more

With his deep wealth of knowledge about the guitar, including the fundamentals and music theory, Greg is able to help me find songs that are fun to play and will also help me grow as a guitar player. As a beginner guitar student, Greg was an expert guide through basics of playing guitar, starting with open chords, scales, moving into playing actual songs. Before I knew it, I was playing some of the music I had only dreamed of playing. As a guitar student with a variety of injuries, Greg has helped me find ways around my physical limitations to learn how to play guitar. Every lesson is encouraging, and I'm always excited when I leave." Read more

Your Singing Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are singing lessons?

Singing lessons cost $50 to $90 per hour on average. Prices vary depending on the teacher's location, experience, reputation, and whether you're taking a private or group lesson. Group lessons typically cost less per person than private lessons, but you may not get as much personal attention and feedback in a group setting.

  • Some singing teachers charge a flat rate for a specified increment of time, typically in 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute increments.
  • Many coaches offer package deals to purchase 2 to 10+ lessons at a time and reduce the cost per lesson.

Do singing lessons work?

Singing lessons won't change your sound completely, but they can help improve your sound by strengthening your vocal cords and improving your range and tone.

What do singing lessons teach you?

Singing lessons involve more than just your voice. A vocal coach will teach you how to hold and improve your posture, which gives your diaphragm optimal room to expand. You also learn proper breathing techniques and how to use your breath to improve your tone. Singing lessons also help you improve your diction—the way you articulate your words when singing—as well as your ability to match specific pitches.

Can adults take singing lessons?

Yes, adults can absolutely take singing lessons. While starting singing lessons at a young age gives you more time to develop your voice, it's never too late to begin learning and improve your singing voice.

How do I find the best singing lessons near me?

Follow these guidelines to help you choose the best singing lessons near you:

  • Check out their reviews on Lessons.com and Google.
  • Get at least three estimates from teachers with similar credentials.
  • Ask for recommendations from others in the local music community.
  • Do a trial meeting or lesson if possible with several teachers to find the best fit for your goals.
  • Ask them about their training and credentials.
  • Ask about what specific methods and techniques they teach.
  • Ask about the specific progress they've made with other students.
  • Make sure their schedule matches your availability.

What questions should I ask when choosing a singing teacher?

Ask these questions to help you choose the best singing teacher for you:

  • How long have you been teaching singing?
  • Can you share any success stories?
  • Do I need to have a good voice already to become a better singer?
  • How long does it typically take to see improvement?
  • Do you offer any package deals?
  • What is your teaching schedule?
  • How long are your singing lessons?
  • How often should I practice?
  • Do you offer private or group lessons?
  • Where do you teach?
  • Do you offer online lessons using video calling?

Lou Savage isn’t a “one size fits all” type of teacher. Rather he adjusts his lessons for the best outcome for each individual student. I highly recommend him for anyone who is serious about taking lessons.

My goal of singing well was a dream that I hadn’t realized. Instead I concentrated on my profession as an engineer. I love singing but had not connected with a teacher who demanded correct singing technique and language skills. Duba was that teacher. She was demanding, literate, and knew European classical music. I really appreciated the demands that she made on my voice tchnique and the classical songs we preformed. Her voice studio allowed me the opportunity to perform with a piano teacher in front of an audience. I really enjoyed those times. I count myself fortunate that I discovered her voice studio and that she accepted me as a student.

Patricia is a brilliant Renaissance woman. She is what you get when you mix technical excellence and style with humility, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to the craft. She is simply the best! I feel incredibly lucky to have met Patricia and begun my singing journey with her. I've been a student at Studio Shanks since 2018, when I was fresh out of college and looking for a voice teacher who could earnestly teach me how to sing. At the time, there were flashy online ads for folks that could "make you a superstar" and all of it felt so loud and nothing seemed to fit. At one point Patricia returned my call. Immediately I knew that she was the right teacher for me. It was obvious that she is not just naturally fun and easygoing, but also a true technician when it comes to the craft of singing. It's been a few years since we began working together. I've discovered that singing is something that can be learned at any age. It requires hard work, but it can be done. Luckily, Patricia is entirely dedicated to the growth and success of her students. Knowing this makes it much easier to bring my own effort during and between classes. I am honestly amazed at how, despite having worked with many respected luminaries in the field, Patricia remains humble and always with a sense of humor that puts me at ease. She is everything that comprises a professional artist and educator. What I love most is that she cuts through the noise and focuses on pure foundations. That means that she is able to work with vocalists ranging from the most contemporary pop styles to opera to musical theatre and beyond. All kinds of singing require the same basic knowledge of healthy and safe vocal techniques. At Studio Shanks, everything counts and everything matters. Thank you so much, Patricia!

As an artist myself (with a musical background and YEARS of childhood music lessons from a variety of teachers), I can confirm that not every music teacher is an artist, and not every artist is a good teacher. Diane is that rare and precious combination of a stellar musician AND incredible teacher. Our Zoom fatigued 10 year old daughter can't wait to log on to her lesson each week; and she always gets a balance of solid technique, encouragement, and carefully chosen and suggested songs that she is excited to practice. Her own technique has improved more than I thought possible in a short period of time at a young age. 'Miss Diane' deserves more than five stars.

They are a professional school. They have detailed programs for each student. Their teachers have Master Degree in Music from university for emphasis in their particular instrument. They are member of MTAC Merit of Certificate so after certain time my kid can take exam and pass to next level. I saw the progress. School is big and clean. A lot parking lot. Price is reasonable. My daughter can participate a band and often perform in holidays. High recommend

I had the absolute pleasure of being taught by Rosita as my Spanish teacher, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. From the very first lesson, it was evident that Rosita's teaching style was something truly unique and effective. What sets Rosita apart is her immersive approach to teaching Spanish. Instead of just sticking to the textbook exercises and grammar rules, she encouraged us to engage in actual conversations right from the start. And here's the brilliant part - she conducted these conversational sessions right in her office, where a diverse group of Spanish speakers would gather. This not only created an environment that felt authentic and real, but it also eliminated the fear of miscommunication that often arises when learning a new language. Rosita's office was like a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds, and I can't express how much this contributed to my learning journey. Having the opportunity to converse with native speakers, fellow learners, and Rosita herself in an informal setting was a game-changer. It gave me the chance to practice what I was learning in a real-world context, and I saw a significant improvement in my conversational skills in a relatively short time. Rosita's teaching style goes beyond just the language itself; she fosters a sense of community among her students. There was always an open invitation to ask questions, share cultural insights, and even make mistakes without feeling embarrassed. This supportive atmosphere was instrumental in boosting my confidence and encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone. Moreover, Rosita's passion for teaching was evident in every lesson. She brought in creative activities, engaging resources, and thought-provoking discussions that made each session something to look forward to. Her dedication to helping her students succeed was truly inspiring. I can confidently say that Rosita is not just a Spanish teacher; she's a language mentor who transforms the learning process into a remarkable journey of growth and self-discovery. If you're looking for a teacher who not only imparts language skills but also opens doors to meaningful connections and cultural understanding, Rosita is the one to go to. My gratitude knows no bounds, and I can't wait to continue my Spanish journey with the foundation she's provided me. ¡Muchas gracias, Rosita! Eres la mejor. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
