About
Tuition for lesson includes a free booklet of songs and techniques used in lessons. No need for cosly books. As a certificated music teacher in CA, I also offer music theory for AP courses, and a songwriting program. There may be travel charge to your location.
It's fun to show new, current, and returning students how to play better. It's also my profession and livlihood.
Some students get it sooner, some get it later. But all get it. All depends on the student! I've got it. I have taught it in thousands of lessons to countless students in private session mostly, but also in schools, colleges, community programs. I go into it more on my website roccomatoneguitar.com. Also, you are welcome to visit my Universal Guitar program.com website for bonus student materials. Currently, I am revamping my sites, but I hope to complete the project soon. In the meantime, call me. 310-430-5691. Glad you got this far. Keep going!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I do with a new student is to listen. If the student has some experience and can play anything (fav song, chord, riff, or melody) I listen to their sounds and observe their movements, and I make recommendations. If the student is a beginner, I ask them to identify their fav song, or artist and why. Then I ask "what would you wish for if you had only had one wish regarding playing the guitar?" For some students it's learning a song that seems beyond their current ability. For other students it's playing in a band or playing at a talent show, or playing for a friend or family member. Whatever it is I respect where they are coming from and lead them forward. In any event all students leave the first lesson knowing how to play a new song.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Music, MM graduate degree; California cerificated music teacher, BA Music undergraduate degree
Virtus certification (a program for teaching and interacting with students and minors).
State of California Dept. of Education Credential Commission (Permit to teach music in public schools).
Screen Actors's Guild (this is the performers union that includes singers for TV ads). Yes, I do sing and love it! You know, to be singing is a very important additional skill for a guitarist to have!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
One-hour lesson with travel to the student's location includes a free booklet of songs, scales, chords, etc... that we use in lessons. We can also use students own materials.
How did you get started teaching?
Back in high school, I played in a rocknroll band in which I was the only one who could read notes and apply music theory, so I was elected to teach the others what I knew. Next thing I know, I was teaching regularly on weekends at the local music store in my home town where many guitarists bought their instruments and supplies. Over the years, I've free-lanced a lot, all over the country, both as a player and as a teacher. Now I'm on the internet and on faculty at several schools in LA, CA.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly Beginners and Intermediate students. All ages. I enjoy being a student's first guitar teacher no matter how young or old they may be.
