My name is Arif Shakir. I’m an Los Angeles based Jazz, Classical & Gospel pianist with over 12+ yrs of experience. I am largely versed in classical/Jazz & RnB genres and emphasize developing good piano techniques, a strong sense of rhythm, and creative improvisations in my students. I teach using several accredited learning methods and tailor my lessons to specifically match each student.

Helping children and young adults alike gain a level of mastery on their musical craft and see their self confidence bloom as a direct result of it. It goes beyond just learning music and helps them learn a part of themselves.

Arif is very detailed and thorough. His method of teaching simplifies even the most difficult concepts. I know I’ve developed as a musician as a result of learning from him.

How did you get started teaching?

I've trained extensively in classical music from a young age. Which led me to perform and teach for numerous music programs and events. I have well over 12+ years teaching both classroom and private students.

What types of students have you worked with?

Youth ages 6-19, Adults, Elderly. All of various backgrounds from music theory, jazz, classical & RnB.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Being self taugh prior is excellent and shows a degree of self sufficiency. However it is much more advantageous to learn from a multitude of teachers and methods to broaden your experiences and to further the learning process. Also it lessens the time it takes to reach your goal when you study with a good teacher as opposed to going through trial and error on your own.
